According to some new info that surfaced, 5G could make a comeback to Huawei phones with the Mate 60 series. This information comes from ‘Classmateguan’, a Chinese tipster.

The Huawei Mate 60 series to debut in October, 5G connectivity tipped

He did note that the Mate 60 series is coming in October. In addition to that, he suggested that all phones in the series will offer 5G connectivity. Some of you may be a bit confused by this, so let me explain.

Huawei’s smartphones have been limited to 4G connectivity for quite some time now. Why? Well, due to the US sanctions. Some of them did get 5G via accessories, like this one, but 5G was not supported from the get-go.

So, how is Huawei planning to bring back 5G connectivity? Well, we quite frankly do not know. The US sanctions still prevent Huawei from using 5G in their phones. They were forced to use 4G variants of some of Qualcomm’s chips thus far.

The US sanctions have prevented Huawei from utilizing 5G on its smartphones

The latest US sanctions even bring to question whether Huawei will be able to use 4G variants of those chips. Things are quite complicated, and Huawei has been trying to figure things out. This has been going on for years.

The company announced its Huawei P60 series not long ago. Those phones do have a lot to offer, at least on paper, as we were not able to check them out yet. The global launch is expected to happen in the near future, though.

The Huawei P60 series didn’t even leave a mark just yet, and we’re already talking about the Mate 60 series. Both of those smartphone lineups are flagship-grade, basically. Those are Huawei’s two most powerful lineups of devices.

It would, of course, be great to see 5G connectivity on Huawei devices once again, but we wonder if the company will be able to pull it off. We don’t see a way, at the moment.
