Get Ready for a Surprise: iPhone 15 May Charge Faster Than Apple Claims!

The iPhone 15 left us with a nasty surprise when Apple unveiled it about a week ago. And that was its charging speed. Now while many did not expect it to jump up to 100W charging like some Android phones, we were hoping for faster charging than 20W, thanks to the move to USB-C. But that didn’t happen.

If you take a look at Apple’s website, it is quoting that the iPhone 15 charging speed is 20W. Though not word for word, what Apple actually says is that you can get a 50% charge in 30 or 35 minutes “with 20W adapter or higher”. So many of us took that to mean, it’s still 20W charging, which is technically true. However, in testing, it appears that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro can actually charge at up to 27W, with an appropriate charger.

This is believable, but more testing is needed

This is believable, since the iPhone 14 series was able to charge a bit faster than Apple was touting. It was around 25W in independent tests. So not a huge surprise here, to see it charging a tiny bit faster than even its predecessor. So why is Apple only touting 20W? Well, they kinda aren’t. Since they are saying 20W or higher, adapter.

Of course, it’s still far slower than phones like the OnePlus 11, which can charge at over 100W and be fully charged in less than 30 minutes – not only half way charged.

We’ll have to do some testing once the iPhone 15 comes out on Friday to see if this is indeed accurate. So far, the only people with an iPhone 15 were those under embargo with Apple, that attended the event last week. And they won’t say anything bad about Apple, out of fear of not getting units early again. So do keep that in mind with these reviews.
