In addition to the Watch Series 9, Apple has also announced the Watch Ultra 2 this morning, complete with Apple’s brightest watch display ever, reaching a peak brightness of a whopping 3,000 nits.
The Watch Ultra 2 also uses the new S9 chip, and comes with a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip that can be found in the Watch Series 9. There’s a new Watch Face available with the Watch Ultra 2 called Modular Ultra, and while just a watch face, it shouldn’t be swept under the rug. This new watch face allows for real-time updated details (like elevation or direction) to be displayed so users can check it at any time.
And because the display now gets up to 3,000 nits, everything should always be visible. Even in direct sunlight. Another one of the new additions to this year’s Watch Ultra 2 is the double tap gesture for Apple Watch. This is also launching on the Watch Series 9, and it’ll be available for both watches sometime in October. Apple has confirmed it’s coming in a software update next month but it hasn’t mentioned the exact date.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 also features on-device Siri processing
When it comes to new features, there’s a lot of similarities between this watch and the Watch Series 9. One of those is the new on-device Siri processing. For requests like setting timers or alarms, the Watch Ultra 2 can process the request right on the device hardware. Making for faster results than before. This works for any request that doesn’t need information from the internet to complete. There’s also new cycling features, and a flashlight boost. As well as new additional band colors, and a battery life of up to 36 hours. This is the same battery life as the original Watch Ultra.
So the impressive thing here is that Apple has kept the battery life on the watch the same while also stuffing more feature capabilities into it. Users can however extend that battery life out to 72 hours in low-power mode. To go along with Apple’s goal to become entirely carbon neutral, the Watch Ultra 2 is now made from 95% recycled titanium too. Like the Watch Series 9, Watch Ultra 2 will be available for pre-order starting today. It will be available for purchase in-stores and online on September 22. The watch retails for $799.
