We all know that Google Chrome is a bit of a gas guzzler when it comes to RAM. This is why some people tend to turn to other browsers like Microsoft Edge or Firefox. Well, Google is looking to be more transparent about how much each RAM is being eaten up. Chrome will show you how much RAM each tab uses.

So, Google is looking to make the information about per-tab RAM usage easier to access. Technically, you can view how much RAM a tab is using already. To do so, you’ll need to access the task manager. Click on the three-dot menu, go to More Tools, and click on Task manager.

You’ll see a window pop up showing you a bunch of information about all of the open tabs you have open. It will show you, in kilobytes, how much RAM each tab is using. You can also use CTRL + Esc to view the same information.

Chrome could show how much RAM each tab uses

So, it’s already possible to see how much RAM each tab uses on Chrome, but what Google is planning on doing is making that information easier to access. As it stands, accessing this information requires you to dig into the settings.

However, with the new update, all you’ll have to do is hover your cursor over the tab to see the RAM usage. This is perfect if you want quick at-a-glance information on your tabs’ RAM usage.

At this point, we don’t know when this feature will make it to users. This feature was discovered by Leopeva64 on Twitter (via Android Police), and it’s still in the early stages. There’s no telling just how long it will take for the company to start testing it out. It seems like a simple enough feature, so we don’t expect it to take too long to reach users.
