Less than a week ago, Digital Chat Station, a well-known tipster, reported that Xiaomi is working on its very own clamshell foldable smartphone. Well, the same source now reports that the very first clamshell foldable from Xiaomi won’t launch until next year.
The very first clamshell foldable from Xiaomi coming next year
The tipster actually said that both the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 and Xiaomi MIX Flip are coming in 2024. The MIX Fold 4 will succeed the MIX Fold 3, which is expected to arrive in the coming months.
The Xiaomi MIX Flip will become the company’s first clamshell foldable. We were wondering if it will launch by the end of this year, but that won’t happen, it seems.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 is marked as ‘N18’, while the Xiaomi MIX Flip has the ‘N17’ model number. The tipster also said that both phones will be fueled by a Snapdragon 8 series processor.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold series always gets the latest flagship, Qualcomm-branded chip available. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to fuel the Xiaomi MIX 3. Presuming that the MIX 4 is coming in Q3 next year, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will likely fuel it.

Xiaomi will either opt for that same chip in the Xiaomi MIX Flip, or use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, or possibly the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2, if it ever launches. We can only guess at this point. That phone is still a mystery.
We do hope to see Xiaomi’s foldable smartphones in global markets. Xiaomi already released the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold and Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 foldables, but only in its homeland, China.
Neither of those two phones made it to global markets. We’re hoping that will change with the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3, as the company’s foldables do look quite compelling from the design standpoint.
