Galaxy Watch 6 straps are randomly falling off on their own

Samsung introduced a new “One-Click” band mechanism with the Galaxy Watch 6 series. It makes replacing watch straps more convenient than the pin mechanism used on the Galaxy Watch 5 and older models. However, the company seems to have made it too easy to detach the straps, so much so that the straps are detaching from the watch on their own.

Over the past few days, several Galaxy Watch 6 users have complained about random detachments of the strap. This is happening because of accidental presses of the one-click button. Samsung’s idea was to enable users to quickly detach the strap by pressing the button. However, it turns out your wrist bones can accidentally – and easily – depress the button, leading to unexpected detachments.

This can happen anytime without any specific action triggering the detachment, though the strap shouldn’t come off on its own if you aren’t frequently moving your wrist or hand. The tip of the ulna appears to be pressing the button, so you’re more likely to run into this problem if you have a more pronounced tip. You may also face this problem if you wear your watch a bit too tight during workouts or other intense physical activities.

Be careful if you’re using stock Galaxy Watch 6 straps

The YouTube video attached below shows what is happening with the Galaxy Watch 6’s one-click band mechanism. You’ll find more complaints from the affected users on this Reddit thread. While the issue doesn’t seem to be widespread, it’s still a big problem. Since the strap detaches randomly at any time, users may not be able to react quickly and stop their watches from falling to the ground.

In fact, some of the affected users have had the strap detach on its own when they were on a run or riding a bike. This means their brand-new Galaxy Watch 6 fell onto concrete and suffered damage. So you should be careful if you’re using Samsung’s official straps with your new Galaxy Watch. The button is fairly difficult to press, but it’s certainly not unsusceptible to accidental presses from your wrist bones.

As a precautionary measure, you can switch to third-party straps or get Samsung’s older straps that use the pin mechanism. Galaxy Watch 5 straps work with the Galaxy Watch 6 series as well. As of this writing, the Korean firm hasn’t said anything about this issue. But if many users are facing the problem, the company may drop this one-click mechanism and go back to the older solution. Or maybe come up with something better, we’ll have to wait and see.
