Google Pixel Watch 2 to have different Android requirements

The Google Pixel Watch 2 will have different Android requirements than its predecessor. What exactly do we mean by that? Well, it seems like the watch will require at least Android 9.0 in order to connect to your phone.

The Google Pixel Watch 2 will launch with different Android requirements

With the original Pixel Watch, Android 8.0 was required. Google upped the requirements a bit, but that is to be expected. That won’t be a problem for the vast majority of people. Consumers who end up buying the Pixel Watch likely have a much newer version of Android.

This change is pointed to by Google itself in the footnote of its new teaser page. As many of you know, Google teased the arrival of its new products yesterday. The company flat-out confirmed that the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel Watch 2, and new Pixel Buds Pro colors are coming. Google even revealed the designs of its upcoming products.

Also, as a reminder, as of June 2023, 8% of all Android devices still run Android 9.0. As I already mentioned, however, people who end up buying this watch probably have newer versions of Android.

The company will announce its new products on October 4

Google’s event will take place on October 4, and the Pixel Watch 2 will seemingly look the same as its predecessor. That is not surprising, as the design of the watch was the least of its problems.

The Google Pixel Watch 2 will come with an updated chip, based on rumors. It will be fueled by the Snapdragon W5 processor, from Qualcomm. The Pixel Watch included a rather outdated Exynos chip.

That should enable the watch to offer much better battery life, as that was one of the main problems of the Pixel Watch. Other improvements are also expected, but we don’t have the specifics yet. More info is likely to surface prior to launch, though, so stay tuned.
