Huawei could launch a more affordable foldable phone

Huawei could launch a more affordable foldable phone in the near future. This information comes from a Chinese tipster, Sina Digital. He shared the info via Weibo, a Chinese social media network.

Huawei could launch a more affordable foldable phone under the ‘Nova’ brand

The tipster said that this foldable device could launch under the ‘Nova’ brand. If that ends up happening, that device will become the first foldable smartphone under the ‘Nova’ brand. Every other foldable thus far launched under the main, ‘Huawei’ brand.

In any case, this smartphone is tipped to cost between CNY4,000 ($558) and CNY5,000 ($697). That may see to be quite affordable, but do note those are price tags for China. If it ends up launching globally, it will cost notably more than that.

The tipster also noted that this phone could feature the Snapdragon 778G SoC, and support 4G connectivity only. He also notes we’re looking at a clamshell foldable smartphone here, not a book-style foldable.

This will be a flip phone, like the Huawei P50 Pocket and Pocket S

Huawei already released the Huawei P50 Pocket and Huawei Pocket S, so we know what the company is capable of when it comes to flip phones. This device will likely have a small cover display, and cut costs in a number of other ways.

Huawei’s foldables thus far have been quite interesting, though. The Huawei P50 Pocket has proven to be a great flip phone, with a high-end design. The same goes for the Huawei Mate Xs 2, and so on.

The Huawei Mate X3 also managed to attract a lot of attention, for a reason. It’s extremely thin, and it folds flat, while it doesn’t make any major sacrifices to achieve that. You’re still getting water resistance, excellent crease control, and so on.

It will be interesting to see what can Huawei do with this ‘Nova’ phone. Let’s hope it will launch outside of China too.
