Today, Motorola announced two new foldables. They are sticking with the flip-style foldables this time around, and announcing the Razr and Razr+. They are both mostly the same, aside from a few aspects. But, only one is going to be available next month. The Razr wonāt go on sale for a few more months, unfortunately.
Motorola is continuing to use the original Razr flip phone from over 20 years ago, as inspiration for this foldable. Even though Motorola has gotten rid of the chin that made the Razr so unique and iconic in the 2000s. Motorola had to do this to make the cover screen so large on the āplusā model, and wanted to keep the phones similar, so both have no chin. However, the Razr is the thinnest flip-style foldable on the market, coming in at 15.1mm closed, and 6.99mm when opened.

New gapless and creaseless hinge
Motorola has a brand new hinge on the new Razr models this year. Which they claim is gapless and creaseless. Because of the way that the Razr folds, and has curved sides, it does look like there is a bit of a gap, but there really is not. Which will definitely help with the durability of the phone, and helps to keep the crease down to minimum.
Motorola says that there is still a crease there, but itās a whole lot less noticeable compared to the previous models of the Razr. So thatās good news for sure. Thatās one thing that a lot of people really dislike about foldables these days.
The hinge is also very tight, allowing the Razr to sit at any angle. And with that, Motorola is adding in a number of features to use both displays at the same time, or even by themselves.
Neat software tricks on the new Razr
With a new foldable, comes new tricks to make the software work better on this new form-factor. Motorola is still highlighting continuity, though thatās not really new. It is sort of new for Motorola though, as this is the first time that you can use apps on the cover screen, and then open up the Razr+ and continue using the app. On the older Razrās, the screen wasnāt large enough to do that.
While weāre talking apps on the cover screen, they all work. App developers donāt need to do a single thing to make their apps work on the cover screen. They should all work on the cover display, because of the way Android works. Motorola has said that every app theyāve tried, has worked. Which is really impressive to be honest. And you can even open up a full keyboard on that screen.
Also on that cover display, Motorola has added more clock styles that you can add. Thereās also panels that you can add to the cover screen and swipe between. These include apps that youād want to use on the screen, shortcuts for calling people, Google Fit, Google News, Weather, and even playback controls. Motorola really tries to make that display super usable for everything.
Pricing & Availability
The Motorola Razr+ will be available for pre-order starting on June 16, and then available online and in stores a week later on June 23. Itāll cost $999, which puts it right in line with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, though the Flip 5 is being announced a month later.
Now, the Razr on the other hand, has no pricing nor availability. Motorola has only said that it will be available in the ācoming monthsā. Theyāve also said that the price will be āmeaningfully cheaperā than the Razr+. Considering some of the specs here compared to the Razr+, thatās not too surprising.
