Samsung is in the process of pushing One UI 5 Watch to the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series. The update is already out for both models, but it isn’t yet available everywhere. Based on Wear OS 4, it’s a major update that brings several new features and improvements. Among them is the ability to create app folders, a feature available on Galaxy smartphones. One UI 5 Watch also prepares Galaxy watches for the Watch Unlock feature.

Once you have installed the One UI 5 Watch update on your Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Watch 5, you can go to the app drawer and create folders to organize multiple apps in one place. The folder management system works similarly to smartphones. You can long-press to drag an app icon and drop it on top of another to house them in a single folder. Samsung lets you name/rename the folders and select one of the six background color options.

When inside a folder, you will find a “+” icon to add more apps to it. Tapping this icon will give you a list of installed apps in alphabetical order (via SamMobile). Pick the apps you want to add to the folder and tap on Done. You can create as many folders as you want and add as many apps as you want in a folder. You can organize apps category-wise (media, health, workout, etc.) for easy access. Folders will also help make your app drawer less cluttered.

It’s unclear if Google will include this feature in its Wear OS 4 update for the Pixel Watch. The app drawer on the Pixel Watch is an alphabetical list, so folders may not be as useful as on the Galaxy Watch lineup, which doesn’t organize installed apps in the app drawer. Google has yet to announce the Wear OS 4 update for its first-gen smartwatch. Meanwhile, it’s gearing up to launch the Pixel Watch 2, which may arrive alongside the Pixel 8 series in early October.

Google has added the ability to unlock your connected smartphone using your watch to Wear OS 4. It appears this Watch Unlock feature won’t be limited to the Pixel Watch. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch lineup may also get it. The One UI 5 Watch update prepares the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series for its arrival. However, it’s unclear when Watch Unlock will be available for Samsung smartwatches. We will let you know when we have more information.
