OnePlus Open launch delayed, for a good reason

According to the latest report, the OnePlus Open launch has been delayed. The reason for the delay is good, though. This information comes from Max Jambor, a well-known tipster.

The OnePlus Open launch has been delayed, but for a good reason

He went to Twitter to explain that OnePlus decided to push back the launch due to the main display on the phone. The OnePlus Open was supposed to use a display from BOE, but that won’t be the case, it seems.

OnePlus opted to go with Samsung panels instead, which is a change some people will appreciate. Now, the OnePlus Open was reported to launch on August 29, by the same source. That won’t happen, though.

So, when can we expect the device? Well, I talked to Max, following his tweet, and he said that the launch date is still pending. He did note that it’ll likely happen in October, but he’s not 100% sure.

We’ll have to wait a bit longer for OnePlus to launch its very first foldable handset. Some people won’t mind that, due to the display change, despite the fact BOE makes really good panels too.

The name of this phone got confirmed not long ago

The OnePlus Open name was confirmed by the company, by the way. OnePlus opted to go with the ‘Open’ name instead of ‘Fold’ for some reason. It’ll surely be easy to recognize, and it does separate itself from the rest of the foldables.

Samsung did popularize the ‘Fold’ name, and a number of other companies picked it up. Using a different approach may not be a bad idea at all.

The OnePlus Open CAD-based renders did surface a while back. They showed us a device with a similar form factor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5. Source claim that the phone will have the same design as the OPPO Find N3. The Find N and N2 offered a completely different form factor than what Samsung offers, so either OPPO is planning to change things up, or the CAD-based renders are wrong. We’ll have to wait and see.
