Over 70 million people are using Roku

Featured image for Over 70 million people are using Roku

Roku is touting that it has over 70 million active users around the globe. That means that Roku has grown right around 10 million since this time last year. That’s not too bad, about a 14% increase year-over-year. In the fourth quarter alone, Roku saw these numbers increase by 4.6 million users. Which means quite a few people got some kind of Roku device over the holidays.

Today, Roku also announced that it hit 87.4 billion streaming hours in 2022. That is a 19% increase year-over-year. While the fourth quarter alone saw 23.9 billion hours of streaming. That makes lots of sense, with people being home, watching holiday movies and such.

These numbers cement Roku as the biggest smart TV platform in the market right now. With quite the lead over Amazon’s Fire TV and Google TV/Android TV.

The Roku Channel was also a top-five channel on Roku

Not a huge surprise, but The Roku Channel was also pretty popular on, Roku. The company continues to add more and more content to The Roku Channel, so it only makes sense that it is continuing to thrive. It also launched its own original movie last year, “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”, and a few other originals were launched as well.

The Roku Channel will continue to get new programming in 2023. Which includes the Miss Universe Pageant, which is going to stream exclusively on The Roku Channel on January 14.

So why is Roku announcing all of these numbers? Well, for one, to brag. Brag that they are the biggest smart TV streaming platform right now. But this is also geared towards its partners. Those that are thinking about making TVs built-on the Roku TV OS, or apps that aren’t currently on Roku and are thinking about going to Roku. They are selling themselves to partners. And with numbers like these, it looks like business is booming for Roku.
