Google is pushing a new update for the Pixel Watch app. It adds the ability to link your Pixel Watch to your Google Account through the smartphone companion app. Version 1.4 of the app, which is now available on the Play Store, also brings a minor UI redesign.

Once you install this update, the Pixel Watch app will show a “Sign in to Google and link your watch to access all settings” prompt at the bottom of the home page. You can tap on the “Link” button on the prompt to proceed. It will take you to a new page where you can link your watch and Google Account. You will find your paired watch here, under the “Unliked watches” section. Simply tap on the “Link” button next to it to complete the process.

As noted by 9to5Google, which first spotted the latest update for the Pixel Watch app, you’ll be asked to link a Google Account to your watch even if you have already added one from the Accounts section under the Google menu of the app. “Linking won’t affect any Google Account you’ve already signed in to on your watch. To manage or add accounts to your watch, go to Google settings in this app,” the company states.

This linking function in the Pixel Watch app is supposed to unlock more settings for your watch. However, 9to5Google found none after linking a Google Account to a Pixel Watch. Perhaps Google is preparing for the Wear OS 4 update, which will bring a watch transfer feature that requires a linked Google Account. The publication could find a couple of strings related to the upcoming feature in the latest version of the app.

“To transfer your watch to your other phone, log in to a Google Account on your watch. Then, try again,” one of the strings reads. “To transfer your watch to this phone, use the same Google Account on your watch and phone,” the other says. Google has also added instructions on how to transfer your Pixel Watch from one phone to the other.

Version 1.4 of the Pixel Watch app brings minor UI changes

The latest update for the Pixel Watch app also brings minor UI changes. The app now shows your account avatar in the top right corner. The watch switcher menu, meanwhile, has been moved to the top left corner from the center. It no longer uses a drop-down menu. Instead, it opens a new page where you can add more watches.
