Finally, rounding out the new products at Unpacked today, is the Galaxy Tab S9 series. This year, that consists of the Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9 Plus and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. They have all the same sizes as before (that’s 11-, 12.4- and 14.6-inch screens). However, the big change this year is that they all come with Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays. Previously, the Galaxy Tab S8 came with LCD and Tab S8 Plus came with Super AMOLED. Now they all have the latest and greatest AMOLED displays.
We spent some time with the three tablets, while we were in Korea for Unpacked, to see how good they truly are. And they are actually really good, especially these new Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays. And this is the first Galaxy Tab S model to get an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, making it pretty durable.
Stunning displays, incredibly thin tablets
As you might expect with these getting Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays all around, they are simply stunning. During the hands-on time, we used these in fairly bright rooms. And while you can see lots of reflections in the pictures throughout this article, the displays do get pretty bright. They are also very saturated, which looks amazing here.
The good thing here is that you don’t need to spend to get the Ultra model to get the best display, as it’s available on all three. But I couldn’t help but fall in love with that 14.6-inch Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. Even though it is larger than my MacBook Air 13-inch, it’s an incredible feat for a tablet. As you’d expect, it is a fairly heavy tablet, so if you do get the Ultra, you’ll want to keep it in a keyboard case or have it sitting on a table all the time. If you do want to hold your tablet a lot, then the regular 11-inch model is probably the best bet.
These tablets are also incredibly thin, especially the Ultra since it is a massive 14.6-inch tablet. We’re looking at 5.5mm to 5.9mm thickness across the board here. And on the Ultra, being 5.5mm, it’s almost to thin to hold comfortably.
Samsung has also made it possible to charge the S Pen on the back of the Galaxy Tab S9 series in either direction. Previously, you had to put it in a specific direction to charge, now, it doesn’t matter. That doesn’t sound like a big deal, but it’s a really nice feature to have added here.
But that’s the Galaxy Tab S9 series. A pretty solid upgrade from the Galaxy Tab S8 series, and perhaps the best Android tablets on the market.
