Samsung is gearing up to launch a new pair of TWS earbuds. Details are scarce, but the upcoming Galaxy Buds were certified by the FCC last month with the model number SM-R400N. The pair has now picked up another regulatory approval, and we have a live photo of one of the buds this time around.

The Korean Radio Research Agency (RRA) recently certified the new Samsung TWS earbuds with the same model number that we saw last month. As usual, the official listing on its website doesn’t reveal anything notable about the unannounced earphones. But we have a live photo confirming the design of the product.

Interestingly, these buds don’t look like Samsung’s recent TWS offerings. The Galaxy Buds 2 and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro both have a round design. The upcoming pair, on the other hand, has a flatter outer surface. It mostly resembles the Galaxy Buds+ from 2020. Like the 2020 model, the new Galaxy Buds also appear to have a rubber-coated lower half. It seemingly features a wingtip as well.

Moreover, the photo published by RRA suggests that the SM-R400N TWS earbuds will have a matte finish. That’s another shift from Samsung’s recent strategy of giving its TW offerings a glossy finish. All of this makes us wonder whether the Korean firm will call this pair Galaxy Buds 3 as previously rumored, or if it will launch the new earbuds as Galaxy Buds 2+.

It is widely rumored that this pair won’t be the next Pro model. While that speculation was based on its model number, the first live photo of the new buds certainly doesn’t evoke a feeling of flagship TWS earbuds from Samsung. We will have to wait for more details to emerge before we can paint a clearer picture of the SM-R400N.

Samsung may launch the new Galaxy Buds later this year

Samsung hasn’t launched a new pair of TWS earbuds since the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro in August 2022. It was expected to unveil a new model during its mid-2023 Galaxy Unpacked event, but it didn’t. The big event in late July only brought new foldables, tablets, and smartwatches.

That’s likely because its next TWS offering will be an affordable model. Rumors are that the SM-R400N will debut later this year. Samsung also has several other non-flagship products in the pipeline, including at least four budget and mid-range tablets, an FE-series smartphone (Galaxy S23 FE), and an object tracker. Time will tell whether all of these products arrive together.
