In January 2022, the process of Sergey Brin’s divorce saw its kick-start, but the process is now over. This process brought an end to the three-year marriage between Sergey Brin (Google co-founder) and Nicole Shanahan. Their marriage hit turbulent storms back in 2021 after allegations that Shanahan was in a relationship with someone that the internet is now all too familiar with.
According to the reports, the divorce was caused by an alleged relationship between Elon Musk and Shanahan. The news of this relationship became public back in December 2021 barely a month after the divorce papers were filed. While some might consider this too soon, the divorce was based on “irreconcilable differences” between the two parties.
The couple have a four-year-old child together, and the divorce splits responsibilities between both parents. Reports also point out that Shanahan didn’t contest the divorce, despite denying the extramarital affair allegations. Even the billionaire and owner of X social media platform said that the allegations were baseless, as he is merely Nicole’s distant friend.

The divorce case between Sergey Brin and his now ex-wife Nicole Shanahan has been in court for a long time. Originally, the case found its way to court in January 2022 after the couple separated the previous month. However, on May 26, 2023, the court signed off on the divorce after settling issues regarding the then couple.
The folks at Business Insider have been able to get a hold of the court records about this case. During the time this case was in court, the couple tried to make it as low-key as possible. This action on their part lets them put things in order whilst avoiding any escalation from mainstream media outlets.
Because both Brin and Shanahan are top players in their fields, this divorce could have been an internet trend. Sergey Brin is the co-founder of Google and also a billionaire, making him a price pick for mainstream media. Nicole Shanahan is the CEO and founder of ClearAccessIP, she is also a lawyer, among other things.
Having these two people in a case like this will cause an uproar on the internet. But adding Elon Musk to the equation as the cause of the divorce will simply take things to the moon. This was one of the reasons Brin fought to keep things silent, hence not drawing too much attention to the case.
But with the divorce over and done with, both parties can carry on with their lives separately while raising their child under the stipulations of the court. This is the second divorce that Brin has been in over the past 10 years. The marriage between Sergey Brin and Nicole Shanahan lasted for about 3 years, and together they have a 4-year-old child.
