The Ulefone Armor 22 is one of the company’s newest smartphones, and it offers the RAM expansion option. As is the case when it comes to RAM expansion on any phone, this is the virtual RAM expansion we’re talking about.
RAM in smartphones can be expanded, kind of
RAM, in general, is a volatile memory that operates faster than any other form of storage. When you fire up an app on your phone, it’s essentially a process, and processes in general are temporarily stored in physical RAM, in the background.
RAM basically makes apps load faster, reduces delays, and so on. Virtual RAM does something similar, actually. It utilizes the phone’s internal storage as a temporary RAM substitute.
If you have dozens of apps running on your phone at the same time, and your physical RAM is filled up, Android will close some apps. Different Android skins handle this differently, though, as some of them kill apps in the background way more aggressively.
In any case, some apps, that don’t have numerous dynamic background tasks, can be shifted to virtual RAM, when needed. Internal storage is slower than RAM, considerably, so it can’t really handle games or demanding apps.
The Ulefone Armor 22 supports virtual RAM expansion
Having said that, the Ulefone Armor 22 does support virtual RAM, and the company shows everyone how to enable it in its new video. That YouTube video is embedded below the article.
On the phone, go to Settings, and then find the ‘Special function’ menu. In there, you’ll see the ‘RAM expansion’ option, and be able to expand it by 3GB, 5GB, or 8GB. The phone will restart, and there you go.
This will improve the performance on some phones, especially when it comes to multitasking.
Now, as a reminder, the Armor 22 comes with the MediaTek Helio G96 SoC, and 8GB of RAM. It also includes a 6.58-inch fullHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
